MACHUPICCHU TICKET

Official Machu Picchu entrance ticket options

«Based on the diagram above, you will find three primary circuits for exploring Machu Picchu: the Panoramic Circuit 1 (highlighted in red), the Classic Circuit 2 (in blue), and the Royalty Circuit 3 (in yellow). Additionally, each circuit features specific route variations designated by the letters A, B, C, and D.

Ticket options vary; some grant access solely to the main attraction—the historic Citadel of Machu Picchu—while others include permits to hike neighboring mountains like Huayna Picchu, Machu Picchu Mountain, or Huchuy Picchu. In the following section, we will provide a brief overview of all the circuits and their variations to help you plan the perfect visit.»

Circuit 1: The Panoramic Experience

This circuit is designed for those seeking the most breathtaking views. It grants you access to the upper terraces, where you can capture the iconic «classic photo» of the Inca citadel. With four distinct routes, you’ll explore narrow paths and elevated sectors that showcase the impressive landscape surrounding the ruins. While these routes require some physical effort, the reward is an unforgettable perspective of this world wonder.

Machu Picchu Mountain (Route 1A)

This route offers the perfect panoramic view from the Guardian's House, overlooking the main Inca structures. For the more adventurous, it includes the ascent to the summit of Machu Picchu (3,082 m). From the top, you will enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the entire valley and the surrounding mountain range.

Total duration: Approximately 4 hours (round trip).

Upper Terrace (Route 1B)

Perfect for those who want the famous panoramic view without the long trek. This ticket allows you to reach the Guardian’s House viewpoint for a spectacular look at the Temple of the Sun, the Sacred Plaza, and the Intihuatana.
Note: This route is limited to the upper terraces and does not include a tour inside the stone constructions.
Time limit: 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Route 1-C: Sun Gate (Intipunku)

In addition to the classic viewpoint, this route leads you to the Sun Gate, the original ceremonial entrance used by the Incas. Located at 2,745m, it provides a historic and emotional first glimpse of the citadel.

Walking time: Roughly 2 hours each way from the terraces.
Availability: Seasonal (Open from June 1st to October 15th).

Route 1-D: Inca Bridge

A favorite for photography enthusiasts, this path combines the classic panoramic views from the Guardian’s House with a visit to the Inca Bridge. This site is a remarkable example of Inca engineering and offers unique photographic angles of the complex.
Walking time: Approximately 1 hour to complete.
Availability: Seasonal (Open from June 1st to October 15th)

Circuit 2: The Classic Experience

Widely considered the most complete and highly recommended way to see Machu Picchu, this circuit offers the perfect balance. It provides the most iconic panoramic photography spots alongside an in-depth tour of the historic temples and structures within the citadel.

Widely considered the most complete and highly recommended way to see Machu Picchu, this circuit offers the perfect balance. It provides the most iconic panoramic photography spots alongside an in-depth tour of the historic temples and structures within the citadel.

The most popular choice for visitors, this route offers the same iconic panoramic views from the Guardian’s House area. It follows a nearly identical path through the citadel’s primary archaeological sites, including the Temple of the Three Windows and the Water Fountains, ensuring you don’t miss a single highlight of Inca history.

Circuit 3: The Royalty Experience

This circuit focuses on the lower part of the city, where the most sacred and elite structures were located. It is an excellent choice for those who prefer a less physically demanding tour, though it also serves as the gateway to some of the most famous mountain climbs.

Route 3-A: Huayna Picchu Mountain

Explore the elite buildings of the lower sector, such as the House of the Inca and the Temple of the Sun. This route is famous for including the challenging ascent to the summit of Huayna Picchu, offering a thrilling perspective of the citadel.
Citadel tour: Approx. 1 hour |
Hike duration: Up to 3 hours.
Requirement: Available only for visitors aged 18 and older.

Route 3-B: Royalty

Ideal for visitors of all ages, this tour focuses exclusively on the royal quarters and sacred enclosures. You will enjoy breathtaking views from the agricultural sector before visiting the Temple of the Sun, the Sacred Rock, and the Temple of the Condor.

Total duration: 2 hours and 30 minutes (No mountain trek included).

Route 3-C: Great Cavern (Temple of the Moon)

This specialized route visits the royal sector before leading you toward the Great Cavern, also known as the Temple of the Moon, hidden on the slopes of Huayna Picchu. It is a unique trek for those looking to see the more mystical side of the site.
Hike duration: Up to 4 hours total.
Availability: Seasonal (June 1st – October 15th) | Ages 18+.

Route 3-D: Huchuy Picchu Mountain

Perfect for those who want a mountain hiking experience that is less strenuous than Huayna Picchu. After touring the royal buildings in the lower sector, this ticket allows you to climb Huchuy Picchu, the «Small Peak» located right next to its famous big brother. It offers a unique, close-up perspective of the citadel from a lower yet equally impressive vantage point.
Hike duration: Approximately 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes (round trip).
Suitability: Great for those looking for a shorter, moderate hike.
